Martin Luther King and our dreams for the afrodescendant communities

By Guy Everard Mbarga

Translation from French : Armelle Mfegue

This April 4, we celebrate the anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King, Afro-American leader of the Movement of Civil Rights for his brothers of the same color. His story is famous, and we will not narrate it again. We must celebrate this day
while thinking of our dreams for a future of genuine brotherhood between Africans and their descendants in the world.

MLK's dream is realized gradually, though with difficulties. We have an opportunity this 4th of April to share ours, and I take this opportunity to discuss mine. Those of a supporter of rapprochement with afrodescendants in the world, especially those in Latin America.

I dream of an Africa as a whole, celebrating the Month of the Afrodescendant, the African Diaspora issued of slavery.

I dream of the day when each Afodescendant, descendant of a slave will need no visa to travel on the Earth of its ancestors.

I dream of the day when Africa as a whole will show its financial, political, human solidarity with Haiti, the first independent black state.

I dream of the day when the great heroes , heroines, the great afrodescendant leaders of Latin America will be celebrated in Africa, Zumbi dos Palmares, Alonso de Illescas, Mondongo Ambrosio, Juan Pablo Sojo, Adalberto Camargo, Gaspar Yanga, King Miguel, Benkhos Bioho, Makandal, José Luis Chirino, Epsy Campbell, Luis Alberto Moore, Dessalines, Nanny, Piedad Cordoba, Sebastian Lemba, Queen Guiomar, Ursula Conga, Francisco Congo, Cudjoe, Cuffy, Julien Fédon, Andresote, Lorenzo Mombo , Toussaint Louverture…

I dream of the day when in every country of Africa, there will be a Secretariat of State or a Ministry in charge of relations with afrodescendants.

I dream of the day when curricula and courses on the African Diaspora will be available in countries in Africa to African students, college students and academics.

I dream of the day when the Athletic games of Africa and its diaspora will emerge.

I dream of the day when each Afrodescendant, slave descendant will be an african godfather or godmother , a kind of " symbolic" brother, sister, mother or aunt from whom he or she was separated once . A framework to find one's self.

I dream of the day when there will be in each african country The Statue of the Unknown Slave.

I dream of the day when the annual photo album of Faces of the Afrodescendance will be published.

I dream of the day when every African capital will have a museum devoted to the history of afrodescendant communities scattered in the Americas;

I dream of the day trips of cultural exchanges will be organized in schools, colleges and universities, in African communities of afrodescendants of the Americas;

I dream of the day when the walls separating the African solitudes and afrodescendants will fall.
